Data Engineer (m/f/x) - Infrastructure

As an expanding social network, with a focus on bringing value to our users, data is at core of every XING products. Our Data Engineers and Data Scientists work amongst other projects on bringing state-of-the-art algorithms into production, establishing our new A/B testing platform, and/or create highly scalable solutions that serve millions of users. From every-day decision-making to advanced machine-learning based products, XING has invested over the years into its data technology footprint, making use of technologies such as Hadoop (e.g. Hive, Spark), Kafka, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, etc.

A challenging task

  • You will work in a DevOps setup managing Hadoop, Cassandra and Kafka clusters and supporting users of the systems both as a consultant as well as a library provider
  • You will shape the data architecture in XING and contribute to the evolution of our infrastructure
  • Collaborate with both the central data science team as well as data scientists and engineers in the product organization supporting them in designing data pipelines from ETL over data processin to data delivery
  • Manage large volumes of data in batch, streaming and online transactions

A convincing background

  • BSc or higher degree in Computer Science or equivalent Software Engineering experience
  • Development experience in Java or Scala and knowledge of open source frameworks and libraries, preferably libraries around Hadoop, Cassandra and Kafka
  • Solid knowledge in operating JVM based services and workloads including configuration and monitoring
  • A good understanding of distributed systems and a the holistic view of the system from conceptual design down to operating system and machine-level
  • Initial experience in configuration management (e.g. Ansible), container solutions like Docker and of course Linux
  • Proficient English language skills
