Free of charge for all members: XING’s business card scanner — for simplified contact management

Hamburg / Munich, September 11, 2012 – XING is the first social network to offer its members one of the most popular business applications - a fully-automated business card scanner - free of charge. As of now, members can scan business cards using the XING Android app, and then add the contacts to their own XING network. This service, developed using ABBYY Cloud OCR, was created in close collaboration with ABBYY, one of the world's leading providers of document recognition technologies.

Users of the XING iPhone app will soon also be able to use this service. The text recognition software used in these applications makes it possible to scan the data in a matter of seconds.  To do this, the business card is first photographed. This photograph is then scanned in an automatic, anonymized process. If the scanner records any of the card data incorrectly, the user can simply edit this accordingly. After scanning the data, the member can link up with the other party on XING with a simple click, or can invite the contact to join XING. The app thus enables users to secure contact data quickly and easily.

Marc-Sven Kopka, press spokesman for XING AG: “With this new feature, XING redefines one of the oldest rituals of the business world to conform to modern times. And what is more, the feature is free of charge for all members.” ABBYY Europe GmbH
