How are you becoming Community Engagement Specialist at InterNations? Nick Gracie gives insights in his application process and working life.
How was your application process?
The application involved an interview with HR, a written task and then another interview with the team leader and head of the department.
Why did you choose this job?
I chose this job because I loved the mission and vision of the company. Getting to help make expat life better for people everyday gives me a purpose and is something that fulfills me.
What does your typical workday look like?
My typical workday involves working with our volunteers that run events and activities in our 420 communities around the world. This can take the form of replying to emails, arranging calls, recruiting new volunteers, helping them with our guidelines when it comes to posting as well as coming up with new ideas to help our communities grow.
What's your favorite thing about your work?
My favorite thing about work is of course our amazing colleagues! Getting to work with such a fun, international and passionate group of people is very inspiring.
What challenges does your job bring along?
I think the challenges can come from the intercultural communication we deal with every day. It is important to take these factors into account to ensure that you are communicating in a way that people can understand and relate to.
What makes your team special?
I think what makes our team special is definitely the diversity. Having such an international team means that we benefit from a broad range of experiences and opinions that we can draw from. It is interesting and beneficial from both a work and a personal perspective!
Why does your employer match your job?
I think my employer matches my job as I think that the close sense of community both at the company and among the users mean that everyone has similar values such as enjoying close international cooperation and a desire to help people connect with each other.
What does InterNations do?
InterNations is the largest global community for people living abroad and it is our mission is to make expat life a great experience. We give expats a secure space where they can connect and exchange information. At our regular events and activities, members can meet other international people and start feeling at home abroad.
