... what you enjoy most about working as a Quality Assurance Engineer at kununu.

What I enjoy most is having a real impact on the quality of our product. It’s motivating to be part of a company where quality is seen as a shared responsibility right from the beginning. The company culture really makes a difference — there's a lot of collaboration, openness, and a strong drive for continuous improvement.

 

How would you describe the working atmosphere in your QA team?

The atmosphere in our team is very supportive and open. Everyone is willing to help, and there's a lot of trust in each other’s work. What really stands out is how much ownership everyone takes — not just for their individual work, but for the team's success overall.

 

Can you share insights on a recent project you worked on as a Quality Assurance Engineer?

One project that stands out is the AI summary feature for reviews. It was a meaningful step for kununu in enhancing the user experience.

 

What were the biggest challenges you faced during this project?

Every new feature comes with its own unique challenges, and for the AI summaries, it was about making sure the content felt natural and consistent across all different cases. It wasn’t just about functionality — it was about the user feeling the experience was seamless. 

What role does collaboration play in Quality Assurance at kununu?

Collaboration is a key part of how we work. Most QAs are embedded in designated feature teams, where we collaborate daily with developers and product managers. At the same time, we also work together across teams as a QA guild, sharing knowledge, aligning standards, and helping each other tackle challenges that come up beyond our individual projects.

What are some key performance indicators (KPIs) or metrics that your team focuses on to evaluate the success of quality assurance efforts?

As QAs, we use Testmo to track and manage our test results, metrics, and overall quality. It helps us keep an eye on trends like test pass rates, and areas that need improvement, so we can continuously optimize our testing processes.

 

Are there initiatives in place that allow team members to pitch new ideas, improvements, or new working methods?

Yes, absolutely. New ideas are always welcomed, whether through retrospectives, project discussions, or informal chats. Starting the Playwright proof of concept was one of the ideas I brought forward, and it’s been great to explore its potential for improving our automation.

 

What tools and technologies do you use for test automation, bug tracking, and collaboration?

We work with Jira, GitHub, Tekton for pipelines, and WebdriverIO for test automation. These tools help us stay organized, automate our workflows, and ensure close collaboration across teams.

Can you describe mentoring or learning opportunities available within the team?

There are plenty of opportunities — from regular knowledge-sharing sessions to one-on-one mentoring moments. Feedback is very much part of our culture, and it plays a big role in supporting both professional development and team growth.

What is the next big project you are working on? Are there any interesting challenges ahead?

I’m currently working on a Playwright proof of concept to evaluate its advantages over our current automation setup. I'm excited about the potential improvements in test speed and stability, and how it could positively impact the quality and efficiency of our releases.

 

What qualities do you think are essential for succeeding in the Quality Assurance field at kununu? Any tips for someone considering applying?

Curiosity, attention to detail, and a proactive approach are really important. For candidates, I would recommend showing not only technical skills but also a strong focus on collaboration and a quality-first mindset.

On top of that, there are regular company events and initiatives that help strengthen the team spirit and create a really positive, supportive environment.
