XING and Samsung Launch Next Generation of Mobile Networking

  • XING Beam: Mobile Handshake with near field communication (NFC)
  • Samsung Galaxy Nexus first mobile device to run Android 4.0
  • More than 20% of XING’s traffic from mobile devices

Hamburg, January 24, 2012: The latest version of the XING Android app was released today and makes it even easier than ever for business professionals to network with one another. XING, the leading business network in German-speaking countries, now provides its members with the option to add contacts using near field communication (NFC). This new feature is called “Beam” and is activated when two XING members call up their XING profile on their Android device and then hold the two devices next to each other.

“We’re really happy about launching the new Beam feature as it underlines the importance and value of mobile devices here at XING”, said Jörg Malang, VP Product at XING AG. “Right now about 20% of our traffic comes from mobile devices and we’re working hard to make sure we continue to offer our mobile users an enhanced networking experience.”

“The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first Android device to offer Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and NFC, making us a leader in the Android and NFC markets”, said Mario Winter, Head of Marketing for the Telecom Division at Samsung Electronics GmbH.

NFC is a quick and secure standard used to transfer data over short distances, making it ideal for people wanting to connect at trade fairs, for example. Samsung, the world’s leading manufacturer of Android smartphones, is initially launching this feature on its flagship device, the Galaxy Nexus, although it is also available to any NFC-enabled smartphone running Android 4.0.
